At the end of January, Threads of Peru hosted New York photographer Michael Marquand in the village of Chaullacocha.
Michael was lucky to get to the community at all, as his visit coincided with the end of January flooding, and he was one of the 1500 tourists helicoptered out of Aguas Calientes after the town was cut off. Despite this setback, Michael persisted and headed out to the communities with our Community Liaison Officer, Urbano Huayna.
His images are breathtaking, and amazing, and we thank him for his contribution.
A good photographer captures the people, and I found myself smiling, emotional and almost a little tearful as I browsed through them... Francisca, Isabel, Santusa and her mother Lucia spinning in their house... and Alejandrina heavily pregnant and yet weaving with her little one beside her.
