Daniel Sonqo assess the women´s weaving
On 23rd October we made a "quick" trip to Rumira Sondormayo to assess the women's weavings and purchase those weavings that met specifications. Below are a few photos from the trip. For me, what stood out most was having my baby Molly on board. She was passed from woman to woman as each wanted to touch her, and (to my surprise) some even kissed her on the lips. They explained, that they kissed her because they couldn't kiss me! I thought that it was a strange thing to say but on reflection, understood. The work that Threads of Peru has done for these women has changed their entire outlook. While they had the skill of weaving previously (in order to make their family`s clothes) it wasn't particularly prized, and it certainly wasn't viewed as a source of income for the family. Through the capacitacion workshops they have been learning to improve their weavings and in doing so improved their economic prospects, and also gained self esteem. So they were kissing Molly because they were grateful to Threads of Peru.
