The Tika Master Weaver Table Runner was handwoven by Narcisa Quispe Mendoza in the high Andean community of Pitukiska.  It is an inspiringly beautiful example of traditional artisanship and mastery from the Mapacho River Valley of Cusco!

Named for the symbols depicted, "tika" means flower in Quechua. The beautiful color combinations and intricate designs, carefully woven row by row on a traditional backstrap loom, illustrate the skill and creativity of Narcisa and others in her community. They have worked tirelessly to refine the traditional weaving and dyeing techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation since before Incan times, creating unique pieces of unsurpassable beauty.

The vibrant colors, hand-dyed using locally-sourced dye materials such as the cochineal insect (reds and purples), ch'illka (greens), and kinsa kunchu (turquoise), are representative of the Mapacho Valley region, known as the "eyebrows of the jungle" for its location on the edge of the Cusqueñan tropical cloud forest.

Pitukiska itself is one of the most remote communities we work with, located in a valley only accessible by foot.
