Size: 30 cm x 30 cm; ROSE variant is 33 cm x 34 cm

Fiber: 50% Alpaca/50% Wool

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This exquisitely handwoven cross-body bag, known as a chuspa in Quechua, is one of the most culturally rich pieces in the Quechua Collection. This South American style bag will be your favorite Latin accessory!

Featuring complex Quechua iconography and vibrant, organically dyed colors, the Awaq Chuspas represent thousands of year of Andean history and are still used today as carrying bags for necessities, like coca leaves.

Slightly larger than the others, the ROSE variant is a new addition to the Quechua Collection, is super soft to the touch and features exquisite complex pallay (traditional woven designs). Its more elaborate design makes this handwoven Awaq Chuspa Bag a true piece of art.

WHO MADE THESE AWAQ CHUSPA BAGS ?

The Awaq Chuspas were woven in the remote Andean community of Pitukiska, deep within the Mapacho River Valley of Cusco, using 100% natural fibers. The bags were sourced directly from the artisan at fair trade value. A remarkable feature of the chuspa is the fact that the central pocket is woven as a continuous piece of the bag, warped on the same loom. Very few artisans, even in the Cusco region, have the knowledge or skill to weave using this particular technique!

Perfect Handmade Wedding Gift - 100% Alpaca Fiber and Natural Dyes

Size: 40 cm x 210 cm

Fiber: 100% Alpaca

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Munay Wedding Table Runner is the perfect wedding gift! These finely woven table runners feature traditional iconography symbolizing love and union, bringing the warmth of Andean history and love to any newlywed’s home.

The dusty rose shade is made from naturally dyeing with the cochineal insect, once more valuable than gold, and the soft cream is natural, un-dyed alpaca wool, locally sourced from the rolling mountains of the Cusco region.

As in many cultures across the globe and throughout the centuries, textiles play an important part in  traditional wedding rituals in the Andes. Not only are special garments prepared, sometimes months in advance, to adorn the bridal party; but textiles are also used as a form of dowry and a testimony to the bride-to-be’s weaving ability. In the Andes, special woven patterns and emblems have been developed to represent the loving union.

Handwoven Peruvian Table Runner - 100% Baby Alpaca

Size: 40 cm x 210 cm

Fiber: 100% Baby Alpaca

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Pitusiray Master Weaver Table Runner in Onyx & Charcoal is one of the finest examples of Quechua weaving in the Cusco region and will add the perfect touch of Latin American panache to your decor!

Woven by featured Master Weaver, Angela Milo Huallpa, from the high Andean community of Totora, the rich earth tones of this luxurious baby alpaca table runner are the result from the naturally occurring range of un-dyed alpaca fiber. The pallay (designs) of each runner are slightly different, reflecting the ever-changing inspirations of weaving - the natural environment, family stories, and the emotions of the weaver while working.

The Pitusiray Master Table Runner in Pewter is a credit to the incomparable skill that Angela has acquired through decades of practice. Her hand-spun yarn is actually considered to be as fine as machine spun! Carmen, her young daughter, is enthusiastically following in her mother's footsteps, already spinning and weaving awe-inspiring textiles of her own.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Tika Master Weaver Table Runner was handwoven by Narcisa Quispe Mendoza in the high Andean community of Pitukiska.  It is an inspiringly beautiful example of traditional artisanship and mastery from the Mapacho River Valley of Cusco!

Named for the symbols depicted, "tika" means flower in Quechua. The beautiful color combinations and intricate designs, carefully woven row by row on a traditional backstrap loom, illustrate the skill and creativity of Narcisa and others in her community. They have worked tirelessly to refine the traditional weaving and dyeing techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation since before Incan times, creating unique pieces of unsurpassable beauty.

The vibrant colors, hand-dyed using locally-sourced dye materials such as the cochineal insect (reds and purples), ch'illka (greens), and kinsa kunchu (turquoise), are representative of the Mapacho Valley region, known as the "eyebrows of the jungle" for its location on the edge of the Cusqueñan tropical cloud forest.

Pitukiska itself is one of the most remote communities we work with, located in a valley only accessible by foot.
