Master Weaver Collection: Traditional Handwoven Peruvian Manta – 100% Naturally Dyed Alpaca

Size: 80 cm x 80 cm (approx.)

Fibre: 100% Alpaca

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Daniel Master Weaver Peruvian Manta brings an exclusive opportunity to collect a masterpiece by the celebrated weaver, Daniel Sonqo!

Called lliqlla in Quechua, a manta is a traditional carrying cloth, used to carry a variety of items – from potatoes to firewood, to plants harvested for dyeing, and even babies! The greatest heights of artistic expression and technical accomplishment are showcased when weaving mantas, as this is the last stage of a weaver’s education.

Peruvian Mantas are traditionally worn over the shoulder by women, covering the back. They are first folded on the diagonal and joined by two corners under the chin with a large pin (traditionally called a tupu).

A true collector’s item, this piece will evoke the mystique of the ancient Incan empire. When listed as out of stock, the Daniel Master Weaver Peruvian Manta is also available by custom order.

Munay Wedding Table Runner

$275.00

Perfect Handmade Wedding Gift - 100% Alpaca Fiber and Natural Dyes

Size: 40 cm x 210 cm

Fiber: 100% Alpaca

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Munay Wedding Table Runner is the perfect wedding gift! These finely woven table runners feature traditional iconography symbolizing love and union, bringing the warmth of Andean history and love to any newlywed’s home.

The dusty rose shade is made from naturally dyeing with the cochineal insect, once more valuable than gold, and the soft cream is natural, un-dyed alpaca wool, locally sourced from the rolling mountains of the Cusco region.

As in many cultures across the globe and throughout the centuries, textiles play an important part in  traditional wedding rituals in the Andes. Not only are special garments prepared, sometimes months in advance, to adorn the bridal party; but textiles are also used as a form of dowry and a testimony to the bride-to-be’s weaving ability. In the Andes, special woven patterns and emblems have been developed to represent the loving union.

Handwoven Peruvian Table Runner - 100% Baby Alpaca

Size: 40 cm x 210 cm

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Pitusiray Master Weaver Table Runner in Onyx & Charcoal is one of the finest examples of Quechua weaving in the Cusco region and will add the perfect touch of Latin American panache to your decor!

Woven by featured Master Weaver, Angela Milo Huallpa, from the high Andean community of Totora, the rich earth tones of this luxurious baby alpaca table runner are the result from the naturally occurring range of un-dyed alpaca fiber. The pallay (designs) of each runner are slightly different, reflecting the ever-changing inspirations of weaving - the natural environment, family stories, and the emotions of the weaver while working.

The Pitusiray Master Table Runner in Pewter is a credit to the incomparable skill that Angela has acquired through decades of practice. Her hand-spun yarn is actually considered to be as fine as machine spun! Carmen, her young daughter, is enthusiastically following in her mother's footsteps, already spinning and weaving awe-inspiring textiles of her own.
