Woven Paths: Style of Travel, Difficulty and Logistics

Style of Travel
You will be accompanied on this trip by a Peru enthusiast, someone who has lived for years in Peru and has a strong connection to the culture, and its people.  Some of our tour leaders are also board members or long term employees of Threads of Peru, and in addition to providing knowledge of the culture, are passionate about textiles!

All transport* is in private, air-conditioned/heated private van or bus, with a professional driver.  In addition to being accompanied by a Peru enthusiast, who will give unique insight into Peru and be able to assist smooth over some of the inconveniences of travel to a developing nation, each day we will also have an expert Peru guide on hand, with a vast wealth of local knowledge

Accommodation

This tour offers a standard 3 star style of accommodation; hotels are handpicked and amongst our favorites.  Each has their own unique charm, are small or family run; are clean and well kept.

This tour also includes 3 nights at Quechua family run homestays; expect basic conditions and shared facilities.

Is this trip suitable for you?

This trip requires an open mind and a sense of adventure.  There will be some long days with early starts and late finishes, but our belief is that people will be so inspired by the textile traditions that they are experiencing this will be part of the package!

We stay in standard hotels and transfers bring us directly to the hotel door where possible. Some of the hotels we have chosen are on steep hills, or require you to walk uphill to reach the hotel.    There are optional short hikes included in the itinerary, but regardless you should be healthy and reasonably fit, physically capable of walking a minimum of 1 mile for some short walking tours, understanding that you are travelling to some high altitude areas.

The homestay accommodation is rustic, and while luxurious by local standards, basic and often very cold.  You should be prepared for challenging conditions and shared bathrooms.

An open mind, positive attitude and love of textiles or craft are a must to participate in this full, but wonderfully unique itinerary.

Who is organizing this tour?
This tour is being operated by Apus Peru Adventure Travel Specialists in conjunction with Threads of Peru.
Apus Peru is a well-respected, sustainable and environmentally conscious travel agency based in Cusco.
From the day that Apus Peru was founded by Fely Callañaupa and Ariana Svenson, they were committed to not perpetuating the exploitation they saw as endemic to the Peruvian travel industry.  Threads of Peru were subsequently founded as a way of ‘giving back’ and also supporting women’s empowerment and economic independence.  Threads of Peru staff will be supporting the tour, but the actual booking process and logistics of your tour will be done by Apus Peru.  The two organisations share the same office, therefore have excellent communication.
